Moving on up -- My New Apartment

Well, when I arrived here I was assigned to a 2-bedroom shared apartment, even though I qualified for my own 1-bedroom apartment. I put my name on the waiting list and expected in a few months that I'd get the new assignment. But I was truly blessed that within a week and a half of signing up I was notified that a unit was available. I moved in on Tuesday, Jan. 27! Here are some pictures of my new home which is on the 4th floor of Complex E, right on the hospital grounds.
This is (obviously!) the outside of the building. It really is beautiful here -- not at all what you might expect for a city surrounded by desert. There are lots of flowers and lots of fountains in the public areas, both on the hospital grounds and in the city in general.

The complex is built in a ring, and in the center is the courtyard -- a major feature of which is the pool.

There are also trees and restful shaded areas in the courtyard to relax and just enjoy what is currently truly marvelous weather!

The common areas are very nice and even seem almost resort-like!

Some of the areas can also be reserved for group functions (ladies, only, of course!).

The other recreational facilities are great, too!

I guess I really won't have any excuse if I don't keep in shape!

The apartment is small, but adequate. To the left is the entrance. Behind the dining area is the kitchen and, at the back, the bathroom.

The kitchen is compact, but functional. I have to be sure and do my dishes regularly -- I only have a 3-place setting!

The living room has a big window and is nice and bright. I have a TV and a cable connection, too!

Here's the bedroom. Note the most important features -- Mr. B and my computer!
So, after seeing all this, you may have to revise your assessment of my stay here as a hardship tour! OK, so I have to cover myself in black when I go out in public -- but, hey, who needs to go out in public? I have all this here; I have my computer to communicate with you; I have cable TV; I even have a keyboard now so I can start practicing piano again!

Of course, I will get out! Shopping is the national pastime here (though I'm not really a champion shopper, I have visited several of the malls to check them out and wile away the time). I hope to go on some local outings in the next few weeks, and maybe to Kenya to visit Katie later in the year.

So keep checking in!
