Mr. B and Me

(Adventures in Saudi Arabia and beyond!)

Flat Stanley Visits
(April/May 2005)

Near the end of April, I had my first visitor here in Saudi Arabia. Flat Stanley, a little friend of my grandson Christopher arrived in search of an adventure. Here is Flat Stanley arriving and getting to know Mr. B and his friends from Egypt, Paz the Donkey and Oscar the Camel.
While Flat Stanley was visiting we were able to take a couple of outings to sites within the local area. Our first outing was with a couple of my friends to the Old City of Dirayah. This was the home of the royal family of Saudi Arabia - the Al Saud family - for at least 200 years prior to the establishment of the current city of Riyadh as the national capital.
Our second outing during Flat Stanley's visit was to the Al Safi Dairy Farm about 100 km outside of Riyadh near the city of Al Kharj. This dairy is in the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's largest consolidated dairy! The herd here includes over 32,000 Holstein cows --about 15,500 milking cows and around 16,500 calves and heifers.
Finally, Flat Stanley, along with Mr. B had the opportunity to visit the Blood Bank at the hospital where I work.
Of course, part of the fun of visiting someplace new and different is experiencing the culture.
So Flat Stanley joined Mr. B in dressing in native style!
